Dr. Waseem Ahmad Siddiqi is an Australian scientist and an acclaimed Urdu author.
Most recently, he worked as a senior Oil & Gas industry professional, as a HSE Specialist in the Corporate Group of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) – the world’s tenth largest oil producer.
He is an Urdu fiction and non-fiction author, whose works have been translated into English and Hindi. His first book ‘Dinon ke Pher’ was published by Maktaba Jamia, New Delhi in 2003. In 2015, his most noted book ‘The Liar and Other Stories’ was published by Diamond Books. Dr. Siddiqi’s stories have also been published in various eminent magazines such as Laaraib, Insha, Shaer, Tahreer-e-nav, Nai Kitaab and Kitaab Numa. His books are available in print and online on Amazon, Kindle, and iTunes. He has also written an Urdu book about monotheism in the Holy Quran called ‘Radd-e-Shirk’.
Dr. Siddiqi has thirty-five years of academic and industry experience in the fields of Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Exposure Assessment, and Environmental Management, in India, Australia and Kuwait.
He has been involved with large-scale occupational health and environmental monitoring/management projects. This includes developing an extensive range of standards/procedures in the above-mentioned fields for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). He has also engaged in the implementation aspects of the KOC Industrial Hygiene framework, including management of occupational health hazards, handling the Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) management program, and dealing with Industrial Health related regulatory compliance aspects of the Kuwait Ministry of Health, Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA) and other relevant government entities. Furthermore, He has been closely involved in developing KOC’s long-term 2030 strategy for HSE issues. He has won many awards for his work, such as the KOC Health Safety and Environment award.
He has received a Master’s and PhD degree in Geology from Aligarh Muslim University, and Master’s in Environmental Management from Victoria University, Australia. While working in industry, he has produced several research papers in various journals and presented the papers in both national and international conferences. Dr. Siddiqi has also taught at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne).
Dr. Siddiqi’s short stories are simply told, and yet are imbued, by turn, with irony, plaintiveness and humour. The most salient feature which characterises them is empathy. Dr. Siddiqi’s simplicity of expression brings readers closer to his stories. His works emphasise the importance of love and affection and these elements are visible throughout his writings.
His stories have been published in various prestigious magazines in India and abroad such as in Laaraib, Insha, Shaer, Tahreer-e-Nav, Naii Kitaab amongst many others. Select stories are translated in to English by Dr. Navneet Gandhi.
